About Udaipur

Udaipur is one of the most scenic cities in Rajasthan. It was founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II of the Mewar dynasty. Surrounded by the Aravalli hills and several lakes, the city is often called the City of Lakes.

The historic center of Udaipur grew around Lake Pichola. Palaces, temples, and old houses stand along the water, creating one of the most recognizable landscapes in Rajasthan. The large City Palace, Udaipur overlooks the lake and shows the royal history of the Mewar rulers through its courtyards, balconies, and museums.

Several other lakes shape the city’s character. Fateh Sagar Lake, Udai Sagar Lake, and Swaroop Sagar Lake add to the calm atmosphere that makes Udaipur different from many desert cities in Rajasthan.

Culture and traditional crafts are still part of daily life. Local markets sell miniature paintings, handmade jewelry, textiles, and pottery. Folk music and dance performances are common during cultural programs and festivals, especially around heritage areas and old havelis.

Udaipur is also known for its romantic lake views, historic architecture, and peaceful surroundings. Many travelers visit to see famous places such as Jag Mandir, Lake Palace, and Saheliyon Ki Bari while enjoying the relaxed pace of this lakeside city.
