With a private beach along with a view of Mandvi Beach and windmills from the top of palace, Vijay Vilas Palace is one of the Palace in Kutch district which you don’t have to miss when you are in Kutch.
Build in early 19th century during the region of Maharao Shri Khengarji III, it took almost 9 years to build the Palace with red sandstone. The Palace is surrounded by lush free garden and fountains made up of marbles and one can easily see the lot of craft work done in the exterior of whole Palace.
The mixture of the architect presenting different architecture from different parts of India can only be seen in the Vijay Vilas Palace at Mandavi. The carving stonework – Jails, Jharokas, Chhatris, Chhajas And Wall Paintings including colored window glass work
and doors was greatly done by artisans.
Once you enter the main gate of this 450 acre lush green property you will be amazed to see a private wildlife sanctuary, you can occasionally see jackal (if you are lucky) bulebell or even chinkara. The palace is approx 500-600 meter inside the main gate.
Vijay Vilas Palace is also famous from the movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. The Palace was shown as the resident palace of the lead actor of the movie. There are a couple of more movies like Lagan and Commando, where this palace has been shown.
