Top Mythological Places Around Pune

Over the years, Pune has emerged as one of the best city to live in India. The city is scattered with numerous temples that are well known for a long time.

In this post i will brief you about a few of the top mythological places very near to Pune. You can do a round trip in less than a day. Some of them are so even close to Pune and you can do a round trip in a few hours.

Narayanpur Balaji Temple, Pune Banglore Highway

Narayanpur is a small secluded village which leads you to the Balaji Temple. It is around 50 km from the Pune city. The village looks beautiful during the monsoon with several small waterfalls on the way.

Although the road is in a pretty bad condition that will get compensated with the scenic view which is marvelous. The Balaji temple is at Naranyanpur remains open throughout the year, and it was built during 1996 to 2001. The surrounding of the temple will please you for its natural beauty.

The idol of the temple is engraved in the wood which is a specialty of the temple. Most people love to trek to Purander Fort which is located very near to the temple and a lovely place to visit.

Swami Narayan Temple, Pune Banglore Highway

The Swami Narayan Temple is situated on the hills of Ambegaon near Pune. The temple features a fantastic two storeys where the ground floor has the deities of Lord Vishnu, and the first floor has Sri Ghanshyam Maharaj and Sri Balaji.

The temple architecture is a worth watching thing. The sculptures and the architectural style is immensely detailed. The temple remains open every day from 8 am to 9 p.m.

Bhuleshwar Shiva Temple, Malshiras

Among all the mythological places in Pune, Bhuleshwar temple is one of the best and unique for its architectural design. The temple is situated on top of a small hill near Malshiras in Pune city.

It is said that the temple was once within a fort which is now ruined and only fragments of which you can see now. The carving inside the temple is a noteworthy thing to see. The sculptures and the carvings will make you think of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ajanta-Ellora Caves.

Baneshwar Temple, Nasrapur

Think of a Sunday morning you are up to a drive through the midst of a jungle and there you found a temple. How does it sound?

Baneshwar temple is around 45kms away from the city of Pune, located in the heart of a forest. The route to the temple is quite exciting and alluring for a drive.

The temple was built by Peshwa Nanasaheb, the son of Peshwa Bajirao I.

To reach Baneshwar Temple, you have to take the Pune-Satara road and NH 48 to Baneshwar temple access road in Nasrapur.

Jejuri Khandoba Temple, Jejuri

Jejuri is a famous for the Khandoba temple. It is located at around 40 km from Pune. The temple is a sacred religious spot for Hindus. There are mainly two temples in Jejuri- one is the Kadepathaara, and another is Gad- Kot temple. The temple is located on a small hilltop, and to reach there, you have to complete almost 200 steps which will serve you as an excellent physical exercise. It is considered as one of the most famous and holy temples of Maharashtra.

If you are a religious person, you can drive to Jejuri and pay your visit to the temple.

Bhimashankar Temple, 

One of the most popular mythological places in Pune is Bhimashankar temple. The temple is situated at the top of a hill in a small village named Bhorgiri, in the Ghat regions of Sahyadri hills.  It is a temple of Lord Shiva where devotees often come to worship, pray to Lord to give them strength.

Locals say that the temple was built in the 12th century. The temple is also considered as one of the 12 ‘Jyotirlinga shrines’ in India. Once you go there, you will understand the historical significance of Bhimashankar.

The Architectural style of the temple is Nagara style and is an excellent example of the ancient Vishwakarma sculptors.

Mahabaleshwar Shiva Temple

You must have been to the beautiful hill station near Pune ‘Mahabaleshwar’. But have you been to the Shiva temple?

The temple is located at a distance of 6 km from the city of Mahabaleshwar. The Shiva temple is an ancient mythological place and also represents the Maratha rich heritage. The magnificent temple has attracted tons of tourist each year to visit the serene shrines.

You will find several other places to visit around, but a quick stop at the Shiva temple will give you peace and positivity. The best time to travel here would be from October to June to experience friendly and pleasant weather in Mahabaleshwar.
