About Yamunotri

Yamunotri is one of the four sacred sites of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. It is located in the Garhwal Himalayas and is the source region of the Yamuna River.

The main attraction here is the Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The temple stands at a high altitude and is surrounded by mountains, forests, and natural beauty. It opens every year during summer and remains closed in winter due to heavy snowfall.

Near the temple, there are natural hot water springs such as Surya Kund. Pilgrims often cook rice and potatoes in the hot water as part of religious rituals. Another important spot is Divya Shila, a sacred rock where devotees offer prayers before entering the temple.

Yamunotri is not directly accessible by road. The journey usually starts from Janki Chatti, followed by a trek of around 5 to 6 km to reach the temple. Ponies and palanquins are also available for those who prefer not to walk.

The area is surrounded by snow covered peaks, waterfalls, and forests, making it both a spiritual and scenic destination. Yamunotri attracts pilgrims and travelers who seek religious significance along with Himalayan views and a peaceful environment.
