About Kedarnath Temple

Kedarnath Temple was originally built by the Pandavas according to legend. The current stone structure was constructed by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century.

The temple is part of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. It is approached by a 16 km trek from Gaurikund, which is the nearest motorable point.

The area is surrounded by glaciers, rivers, and steep Himalayan terrain. Basic facilities are available along the trekking route.

During winter, the idol of Lord Shiva is moved to Ukhrul for safety.
