About Gangotri

Gangotri is one of the four sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. It is located in the Garhwal Himalayas and is considered the origin place of the Ganga River.

The main attraction here is the Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga. The temple is set beside the river and surrounded by mountains and forests. It opens during summer and closes in winter due to heavy snowfall.

The actual source of the river lies further ahead at Gaumukh Glacier, around 18 km from Gangotri. Many visitors and trekkers travel to this glacier, where the river emerges from ice.

The area is known for its natural beauty with snow covered peaks, dense forests, and fast flowing river streams. Nearby spots like Bhojbasa and Harsil Valley add to the experience with quiet surroundings and scenic views.

Gangotri attracts pilgrims as well as trekkers who want to combine spiritual travel with mountain landscapes and peaceful environment.
