Amber Fort

Overview

Amber Fort is one of the most famous historic forts in Jaipur. The fort stands on a hill about 11 kilometers from the city center and overlooks Maota Lake.

The fort was built in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I. Later rulers of Jaipur added more buildings and courtyards to the complex. Amber Fort served as the main residence of the Rajput rulers before Jaipur city was established.

The fort is built mainly with red sandstone and white marble. Its large gates, palaces, and courtyards show the style of Rajput architecture with some Mughal influence. Today Amber Fort is one of the most visited monuments in Rajasthan.
